Overcoming procrastination: Practical strategies for getting things done

Hi everyone,  today I’m going to talk about how to overcome procrastination and get things done. We all know how it feels, you want to get something done but you just can’t seem to get motivated to do it.

“Never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.” ― Mark Twain

The first step to overcoming procrastination is to break the task into smaller chunks. This can help make the larger task seem more manageable. It’s also a great way to give yourself a sense of accomplishment as you work your way through. By having smaller chunks, it helps you focus on a single tasks that can be completed. You can focus on one by one and move on to the next one. The key is to get started and stay laser focused.

The second step is to set deadlines for yourself. This will give you a sense of urgency and help motivate you to get the task done. You should also make sure you reward yourself for meeting your deadlines. By having a sense of urgency, it will help you harness the power of now. Doing it today and not tomorrow is the focus on completion is the way to go!

The third step is to eliminate distractions. It’s hard to focus when you have too many things competing for your attention. Turn off your phone, close any unnecessary tabs or programs, and try to create an environment that is conducive to focus.  With the digital world today, it is very easy to be distracted. The mess in front of you can be a distraction. The background music with lyrics can be a distraction. The outside traffic or the bowl of snacks in front of you is a distraction. Get rid of the distractions and focus on your task ahead.

The fourth step is to create a plan and stick to it. Make sure you have a clear understanding of what needs to be done and how you’re going to do it. Having a plan will help you stay focused and motivated. The plan can be a simple google document, a written plan on a piece of paper, or a detailed project plan with Gantt charts. The key is to having it down on something, and keep track of it until completion.

“You may delay, but time will not.”
― Benjamin Franklin
